The Navua Football Association is actively pursuing the transfer of star national team striker Sairusi Nalaubu for the 2025 domestic season. Currently with Lautoka, Nalaubu has caught the attention of various clubs, including Suva and Rewa; however, it seems that Navua has made a more appealing offer.
Lautoka’s President, Shalendra Prasad, confirmed that Navua FA has reached out for permission to begin negotiations regarding Nalaubu’s potential transfer. He emphasized that any discussions have to follow the Fiji FA’s regulations, which state that a player’s current team must be consulted prior to formal negotiations. Although initial contact has been made via email, Prasad pointed out that no formal application has yet been submitted.
Prasad also highlighted that if a transfer application does come in, it will require a significant fee to cover Nalaubu’s outstanding financial obligations to Lautoka, which stem from previous loans and a breach of contract. He stated, “The player owes us a big amount… he will have to meet all contractual obligations before we can proceed with any transfer discussions.”
While Prasad has expressed that Lautoka will not obstruct any player wishing to switch clubs, he is optimistic that all players who represented Lautoka last season will choose to remain with the team. This transfer situation is reflective of a larger trend within Fijian football, where clubs are actively seeking to bolster their rosters ahead of the new season, thus enhancing the competitive landscape.
The anticipation surrounding Nalaubu’s potential move to Navua contributes to an exciting atmosphere leading into the 2025 domestic season. As clubs focus on strategic recruitment and player development, fans can look forward to a thrilling season characterized by competitive matches and emerging talents.
In summary, the developments in Nalaubu’s transfer negotiations highlight the dynamic nature of Fijian football and the intricate balance that clubs must navigate as they prepare for the upcoming season. The focus on securing top talent not only aims to strengthen rosters but also suggests a promising future for the sport in the region.
