The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle of three Permanent Secretaries, which is set to take effect on February 3, 2025. This decision, made in collaboration with the Prime Minister, aims to enhance leadership capabilities within key ministries and improve governance in Fiji.
Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her new role, she is expected to bring her extensive experience to the forefront of foreign policy. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who is presently serving as the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will take over Dr. Taga’s position at the Office of the Prime Minister and will also take on the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration. This dual role is intended to streamline operations between these critical areas of governance.
Additionally, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who serves as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will expand his duties by acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing, a position he has been filling since January 14, 2025.
Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, emphasized that these changes are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen management and leadership across essential sectors. This realignment is expected to address challenges related to workload distribution and enhance the effectiveness of public service delivery.
This reshuffle reflects a proactive stance by the Fijian government towards fostering local talent and optimizing administrative functionalities. The move highlights the increasing priority placed on effective leadership to better serve the public and respond to evolving national needs.
Overall, these strategic adjustments signify a hopeful future for governance in Fiji, promising not only improved efficiency and accountability in public administration but also an empowered framework for addressing the developmental challenges faced by the nation.
