Team Fiji’s para-athletics squad is gearing up for the Pacific Mini Games, which will be held in Koror, Palau, from June 29 to July 9, 2025. Led by head coach Fred Fatiaki, the team’s goal is to perform at their peak and earn medals for their nation. The excitement is palpable as they prepare to showcase their talents in front of a global audience.
The squad consists of five dedicated para-athletes, including Jacob Chand and Vilimone Balenaiyau, who are set to make their national debuts competing in shot-put events. Both athletes fall under the F-37 classification, a category designed for individuals with moderate movement impairments, often termed hemiplegia. This classification ensures fair competition, allowing athletes to compete on an equitable basis.
Preparation for the games has been reported as effective, with Coach Fatiaki affirming that the athletes are in excellent health and readying themselves to face competitive challenges. As the Mini Games approach, Fatiaki expressed gratitude to the supporters who have backed the team, emphasizing the importance of community support in their journey.
In previous events, the resilience and spirit of Team Fiji’s para-athletes shone through when they secured medals in the women’s javelin event during the 2023 Pacific Games, illustrating the team’s potential for success in the upcoming Mini Games.
The broader support for Team Fiji across various sports reflects a united enthusiasm to see the nation excel. The collaborative spirit resonates within the community, which is crucial as this initiative not only represents a sporting event but also nurtures national pride and inspires younger athletes aspiring toward future competitions, including the Olympics.
With the Pacific Mini Games approaching, Team Fiji’s commitment, preparation, and strong community backing foster a hopeful outlook for a prosperous campaign in Palau, showcasing their ability to rise and inspire.
