FASANOC’s Olympic Day celebrations occurred on July 26 at Albert Park in Suva and the CAAF Compound in Nadi, uniting over 250 participants across a vibrant morning of sports and camaraderie. The festivities began with a lively “Vuvale Bootcamp” led by the Australian Defence Force, which provided motivation, water, and refreshments to kickstart the event.

Following the bootcamp, participants engaged in a variety of activities, including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Boxing, Golf, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Weightlifting. The event also introduced non-Olympic sports such as Chess, Darts, and Karate, with Darts making its debut in Suva and Golf appearing for the first time in Nadi.

In a commitment to inclusivity, adaptive equipment allowed individuals of all abilities to join in. Notable figures like Olympians Albert Miller and Vaciseva Tavaga guided participants at different stations, while Angela Birch and Cheyenne Rova coordinated the Nadi program.

Alongside sports, educational and creative initiatives shone through, particularly the “Art on the Go” activity that encouraged kids to connect with Olympic values through art. Face painting added a festive flair, amplifying the day’s fun.

The event supported the worldwide “Let’s Move” campaign, which promotes physical activity and social connections, resonating with the Olympic mission to inspire healthier communities. Participants received Olympic Day certificates and special wristbands, with many young attendees taking home goodie bags from the Australian Defence Force.

Even with a light drizzle in Suva, spirits soared high, showcasing the event’s success in promoting unity, inclusion, and the transformative power of sports. Thanks to the contributions of the ADF, local sponsors, and volunteers, Olympic Day 2025 served as a joyful reminder of how sports can foster community and togetherness.

This event reflects a growing trend in Fiji as communities come together to promote an active lifestyle and support individuals in engaging with sports, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and camaraderie. With the foundation laid during this celebration, there is a hopeful outlook for continued engagement in sports and community activities in the future.
