Bula vinaka from Singapore!

The first day at a new venue can often be the most challenging for a reporter, and this experience was no different. I rose early, aiming to arrive at the grounds before the gates opened at 8:30 AM. However, finding the correct entrance proved to be quite the challenge. After some time searching, I finally made it to the media room just in time for the 9 AM briefing.

One unexpected hurdle was the need for separate accreditation to take photos. While I had a reporter’s accreditation, it did not cover photography, so I had to register specifically for that purpose. Balancing photography, interviews, and video coverage is no simple task, but it’s a challenge that comes with the territory in our profession.

My primary focus today was on covering the opening matches of Fiji’s men’s and women’s teams, with those stories aimed for publication in today’s paper. After wrapping up that coverage, my attention shifted to posting content online and keeping fans updated in real-time.

Unfortunately, the Fijiana team faced tough competition, losing their first two matches. This outcome places the spotlight squarely on the men’s team as they take to the field. They appeared sharp and confident in their opening match, and fans—including myself—are optimistic that they can defend their title at the Singapore 7s.

The night promises to be long, with matches running until nearly midnight Fiji time. Despite the lengthy hours and early start, my experience has been nothing short of amazing. I eagerly anticipate the excitement of finals day here in the Lion City.

Stay tuned for more updates, and ni sa moce!
