Authorities in Samoa successfully intercepted a significant quantity of prohibited drugs and associated paraphernalia from a passenger arriving on a Fiji Airways flight at Faleolo International Airport. In a collaborative announcement, the Samoa Ministry of Customs and Revenue alongside Samoa Police revealed that officials seized 90 grams of marijuana and various drug-related items during a routine border clearance operation.
The operation resulted in the apprehension of a 43-year-old male passenger, a Samoan national holding a New Zealand passport and residing in Australia. Upon inspection, officials allegedly discovered six bottles containing marijuana, as well as a cannabis grinder and rolling papers in his possession.
The prohibited items were detected through standard screening processes conducted by frontline Customs officers. In adherence to the regulatory framework, the drugs and paraphernalia were seized under both the Customs Act and the Narcotics Act.
Samoa Customs praised the diligence of its officers, emphasizing that this seizure illustrates the continuing commitment to bolstering border security and curbing the illicit drug trade through international channels. The passenger is currently in police custody as investigations proceed. This incident serves as a timely reminder of the importance of vigilant border enforcement in maintaining the safety and wellbeing of communities.
