Chapter seven of the recently released Commission of Inquiry (CoI) report has been completely redacted, according to government sources. This chapter is critical as it contains the names of individuals involved and potential crimes including abuse of office, which are now being investigated by the police.

Certain allegations from a previously leaked version of the CoI report indicated serious offenses linked to a specific individual. These offenses reportedly include multiple counts of perjury, forgery, witness tampering, electoral information violations, false representation, and efforts to pervert the course of justice, alongside issues with Practising Certificate applications.

The current investigations unfold amid significant public interest and concern regarding the integrity of governance practices related to the appointment of Barbara Malimali as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). These concerns highlight ongoing issues within Fiji’s electoral processes, presenting an opportunity for improving accountability in governance.

Previous discussions have revealed that this CoI report and its findings could serve as a pivotal moment for reform within Fiji’s political landscape. As investigations proceed, there is hope that the resulting scrutiny will lead to meaningful change, restoring public trust and enhancing ethical standards in governance. The commitment to transparency and accountability is seen as essential for fostering a more trustworthy political environment in Fiji.
