A 29-year-old man has been charged with the rape of his four-year-old stepson, as identified in the recent statistics from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The data highlights that a total of 18 individuals are facing charges related to 40 counts of serious sexual offences that were filed in the High Court in February.

Among the reported offences, there are 26 charges of rape, 12 counts of sexual assault, one of indecent assault, and one of defilement. The statistics reveal that these cases involve 18 victims, of which 11 are minors. Of these victims, 17 are female and one is male. Notably, one of the accused is a juvenile, and in eight incidents, the accused and victims are related, indicating a troubling trend in familial abuse.

In addition to the aforementioned case, one incident involves a 64-year-old man accused of raping his five-year-old granddaughter. A 47-year-old man has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault concerning his 15-year-old stepdaughter, while a 36-year-old man faces charges regarding his 10-year-old stepdaughter.

Moreover, a 55-year-old man is charged with raping his 63-year-old former partner, and two men, aged 23 and 30, are accused of raping their cousins, who are 17 and 19 years old, respectively. The ODPP also reports that a 17-year-old boy is facing charges for raping a 22-year-old woman.

In more disturbing revelations, a 55-year-old man has been charged with four counts of rape involving a 17-year-old girl, while a 25-year-old man faces charges of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault concerning a 12-year-old girl. Another case involves a 22-year-old man charged with defiling a 14-year-old girl.

It is also important to note that two cases were discontinued after a Nolle Prosequi was filed, which was attributed to insufficient evidence and the victim’s unavailability to provide testimony during trial dates.

The ODPP’s report emphasizes the urgent need for increased awareness and prevention strategies surrounding serious sexual offences, particularly those involving minors. The statistics reflect only the serious sexual offence indictments filed in the High Court for the past month, shedding light on a significant societal issue that requires ongoing attention and action.
