Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized that there is no urgency for President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to respond to the Judicial Service Commission’s (JSC) recommendations. During a statement made yesterday, Rabuka clarified that the timing of such a response falls outside his responsibilities and should be handled by relevant constitutional officials.

Rabuka stated, “That is between the chief commissioner of the JSC and the President, and they can discuss it.” He urged for patience regarding the President’s forthcoming decision, highlighting that the JSC has made its recommendations and it is now up to the President to respond at his own pace.

His remarks come amid growing concerns from senior legal professionals about the delay in the President’s response. In addition, Rabuka addressed a recent High Court ruling by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere, which labeled his advice to the President as unlawful. Although he respects the court’s authority, Rabuka asserted that he does not entirely agree with the ruling and is contemplating whether or not to appeal it. He acknowledged the importance of safeguarding the President and maintaining the integrity of the presidential office.

As it stands, Rabuka believes the ongoing process regarding the JSC’s recommendations should not be hastened. “There’s no need to rush. So we just have to wait,” he concluded, suggesting a hopeful outlook that the appropriate actions will be taken in due course by the involved parties. This approach reflects a commitment to careful consideration in legal and governmental processes, promoting stability within the country’s leadership.
