New members have been appointed to the Surveyors Registration Board for a two-year term, bolstering the oversight of Fiji’s surveying profession. Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, emphasized the Board’s vital responsibilities, which include registering qualified surveyors, upholding professionalism within the field, addressing complaints, and maintaining public trust in the sector.
The newly appointed members of the Board comprise Chairperson Asakaia Tabua, Rod Jepsen, Mike Lenz, Paserio Samisoni, William Robert, and Secretary Avitereki Tukuwasa. Notably, Robert transitions from the role of Secretary to Board Member, while Tukuwasa, currently the Principal Surveyor at the Ministry, takes over as Secretary.
Minister Vosarogo commended the outgoing Board members for their leadership and efforts in enhancing standards and instilling confidence in Fiji’s surveying sector. This change in leadership comes at a time when the surveying profession is increasingly recognized for its crucial role in societal development, as emphasized by outgoing Permanent Secretary Dr. Raijeli Taga. Dr. Taga has noted that effective surveying is fundamental for land management, resource allocation, and infrastructure projects, which are key drivers for the socio-economic development of Fiji.
The appointment of new Board members is seen as a step forward in ensuring that Fiji’s surveying profession continues to evolve and adapt to modern challenges and technological advancements. This proactive approach reflects a commitment to enhancing the competence and credibility of the profession while also fostering progress in various sectors across Fiji.
As the Board embarks on this new term, there is optimism for a collective effort towards improving the standards of surveying, which will ultimately contribute to better governance and opportunities for growth in the nation.
