Police are ramping up efforts to monitor and clamp down on illegal black market liquor shops operating at night. Over the past weekend, these illicit establishments were under police surveillance in Nadi, where law enforcement turned away numerous inebriated individuals.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, highlighted that these actions are part of a broader festive season initiative aimed at enhancing public safety. He urged community members to play a proactive role by reporting any suspicious activities to the National Command Centre at 9905296 or reaching out to him directly at 9904905.

Additionally, police night operations teams have been conducting stop-and-search efforts focused on vehicles and young people loitering in the streets. Despite ongoing warnings about the dangers of drinking and driving, the police reported that some motorists continue to endanger both their lives and those of innocent road users. Last weekend alone, officers made 29 arrests for drink driving, which included apprehending a police officer.

The comprehensive approach taken by the police not only aims to deter illegal alcohol sales but also strives to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the community during the festive season. By actively engaging with the public and maintaining a strong police presence, authorities hope to reduce the number of incidents linked to alcohol consumption and driving, fostering a safer environment for everyone.
