The pretrial conference for Sigatoka residents Mohammed Naushad and Nazreen Nisha Khan is scheduled for February 6 of next year. The couple faces charges related to the murder of an 18-year-old student, with Naushad also being charged with criminal intimidation.

The allegations suggest that the couple compelled the victim to consume a chemical at a residence in Maro, Sigatoka, on June 30, 2022. During the recent High Court proceedings in Lautoka, the couple was represented by Aloesi Degei, while Shahil Kumar acted on behalf of the state.

The court confirmed that all pretrial matters were sorted, and it was noted that a trial date will be established early next year. Justice Riyaz Hamza informed that due to the legal vacation, the matter could not be addressed sooner, although the defense may file a motion if necessary. The trial is expected to take place between March 17 and 28 of next year.

Justice Hamza remarked on the couple’s remand, noting they have been held for over two years without resolution. They remain in custody as the judicial process continues.

This case highlights the importance of a thorough legal process and the judicial system’s commitment to ensuring justice for all involved. As the pretrial date approaches, there is hope for resolution and clarity for both the accused and the community affected by this tragic event.
