Schools throughout the Lau Group and parts of Fiji are celebrating the recent installation of Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara as Tui Nayau, Tui Lau, and Sau ni Vanua o Lau. During this historic occasion, students and teachers across various schools adorned themselves in the traditional colors of white and red, symbolizing cultural pride and unity.

In a display of respect and appreciation for their new chief, pupils participated in flag-raising ceremonies and sang traditional hymns, reinforcing the community spirit surrounding this significant event. Similar celebrations took place in Suva and Labasa, where students affiliated with Lau showcased their pride through red sashes and white uniforms.

The response from schools is part of a broader outpouring of support as the community acknowledges the restoration of Lau’s chiefly leadership—a role that has essential cultural and historical implications. This collective celebration emphasizes the importance of community bonding and the revitalization of traditions within the Lau community.
