Kamikamica Fires Back at “Wannabe PM” Claims: A Call for Unity in Fiji

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has responded strongly to comments labeling him a “wannabe PM,” calling such remarks arrogant and pathetic. This reaction came after a local journalist’s social media post, which, while not directly naming Kamikamica, raised questions about ambition and career paths, prompting the Deputy Prime Minister to defend his reputation and the sacrifices made by him and his family.

Kamikamica expressed his support for publicizing the report from the Commission of Inquiry regarding the now-dismissed FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, asserting that transparency is crucial. He emphasized his commitment to supporting Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and reaffirmed that he has never sought the position of Deputy Party Leader or Deputy Prime Minister.

Drawing attention to comments made by Justice David Ashton-Lewis during an Australian radio show, Kamikamica refuted allegations of him undermining the Prime Minister while publicly supporting him. He clarified that he co-founded the People’s Alliance Party with Rabuka to dismantle the previous FijiFirst government, emphasizing that his actions reflect a focus on rebuilding Fiji rather than personal ambition.

In light of ongoing challenges, Kamikamica assured that he remains dedicated to stabilizing the nation and fostering its growth, stating, “We can’t waste any time,” and reinforcing his unwavering support for the Prime Minister as they work towards a shared vision for a united Fiji.

His statements resonate with a larger theme of promoting unity and forward momentum in Fiji’s political landscape, reflecting a hopeful outlook for continued progress despite political challenges. By focusing on collaborative efforts and constructive dialogue, Kamikamica projects confidence in Fiji’s potential for future development and stability.
