Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica is urging Fijians to cease voicing complaints about the e-ticketing system on social media platforms and instead formally report their issues with evidence. His appeal comes amidst a growing number of concerns from users who have encountered difficulties in transferring balances and blocking lost upgraded eTransport cards.

Kamikamica emphasized the importance of direct communication with the Consumer Council of Fiji or Vodafone Fiji, stating that such formal complaints can be handled more effectively. He reassured the public that the e-ticketing system, operational since February, is secure and reliable, but he is keen to see evidence if users claim money is being lost.

Addressing misconceptions, Kamikamica clarified that charges for replacing lost cards apply only after the second incident, and noted that challenges in card issuance are primarily due to the overwhelming number of cardholders—approximately 450,000 across the nation. While many residents started replacing their cards in March, a significant influx of requests has come in only recently.

Kamikamica also acknowledged that Vodafone should have better anticipated these challenges and confirmed that the government is working closely with the telecommunications company to remedy the situation. Adjustments have been made to allow more time for card replacement, with a deadline set for mid-July.

Past interactions between the government and Vodafone Fiji have stressed the need for improved customer service and resource allocation, particularly in the face of public frustrations. This ongoing collaborative effort aims to foster a more user-friendly and reliable transport system, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and enhancing the overall commuter experience.

In essence, this corrective approach can lead to positive outcomes if addressed swiftly and effectively, ensuring that all Fijians can benefit from a robust public transportation network. As both government and Vodafone work to enhance this system, there is hope for a smoother and more reliable e-ticketing experience moving forward.
