Murder suspect Epeli Laqeni has been granted bail under strict conditions by Justice Usaia Ratuvili in the High Court in Suva, allowing him to refrain from any interference with State witnesses until the conclusion of his trial. The bail, set at $5,000 non-cash, comes as Mr. Laqeni faces murder charges related to the death of his de facto partner in September of the previous year in Nakasi, Nausori.
In seeking bail, the former corrections officer expressed a need for medical treatment to regain his mobility, as he is currently wheelchair-bound. Furthermore, Mr. Laqeni alleged that he has faced harassment from the deceased’s husband, a senior corrections officer.
