Weather Update
Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, where we’ve got more storms brewing than your average coffee shop!
First things first, hold onto your hats because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in effect for the entire Fiji group. Yes, that means everyone, so if you’re planning a picnic, maybe find an indoor activity like counting raindrops instead.
Here’s what’s happening: A lazy trough of low pressure has settled in just north of us, refusing to budge. Meanwhile, another one is sneaking in from the west, like that one friend who arrives at the party a little too late but still wants cake. With the northwesterly winds cooperating, we can expect a fair share of clouds and rain that will hang around until tomorrow.
Forecast until the stroke of midnight:
– **Vanua Levu and northern Lau group:** You can expect a classic Fiji combo with occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms to spice things up.
– **Interior parts of Viti Levu, Sigatoka to Navua, extending to Suva and Tailevu North:** Get your umbrellas ready! Occasional showers will level up to steady rain in the afternoon, with thunderstorms joining the party like a surprise guest.
– **Elsewhere:** Think partly cloudy with occasional rain and, as the afternoon rolls in, possibly some heavy falls and thunderstorm action, because who doesn’t love a little drama?
Rain is expected to slow its roll from the west later tomorrow, but beware: localised heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding in those pesky low-lying areas.
As for winds, they’ll be blowing moderately from the northwest—enough to turn your umbrella inside out if you’re not careful. Watch out for moderate seas that turn rough during squalls!
Here’s a sneak peek into Tuesday’s forecast:
– **Vanua Levu and northern Lau group:** More rain and thunderstorms, it’s like a sequel no one asked for!
– **Kadavu, southern Lau, Lomaiviti, and nearby islands:** Brace yourself for showers and some isolated thunderstorm action—always good for a dramatic entrance.
– **Nadi, Lautoka, Ba:** Partly cloudy with occasional rain—think of it as the weather’s way of keeping things interesting!
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast and Tavua/Rakiraki:** Similar vibes with showers increasing in the afternoons.
– **Labasa and Savusavu:** Heavy rain and thunderstorms, because we’re not done yet!
And if you’re in Rotuma, don’t think you’re getting off easy! You’ll have your fair share of rain and thunderstorms too, keeping the party going!
So whether you’re planning a cozy day in or need to dig out your wellies, it looks like Mother Nature is pulling out all the stops! Stay safe, and may the umbrellas be ever in your favor!
