The Grasshoppers Netball Club is gearing up for an exciting trip to Australia next month, where they will compete in the Queensland Nissan State Age Championship, one of the leading youth netball tournaments in the region. Club secretary Adi Unaisi Ranavue announced that the team is in the final stages of securing visas for their international tour.
Both the under-12 and under-14 teams will represent the Grasshoppers at this much-anticipated three-day event. In preparation, the club has already begun intensive training and plans to engage in various activities that enhance their competence on the court.
In a display of their commitment to community service, the Grasshoppers recently held their first community outreach initiative—a Rubbish Pick-Up Drive between Muanikau Park and Stella Maris School in Suva. According to Ranavue, this initiative goes beyond just improving local environments; it serves as a teaching moment for the young players about empathy, national pride, and the values of generosity and citizenship.
Ranavue mentioned that these activities are designed not only to enrich the players’ experiences but also to develop life lessons that extend beyond the game of netball. The team is set to depart for Australia on the 1st of next month, looking to make a positive impact both on the court and in the community.
This journey showcases the Grasshoppers’ dedication to fostering responsible athletes and engaged citizens through sports and community involvement, providing a hopeful outlook for the club’s future and its contributions to broader societal goals.
