GLEN Jackson expressed that selecting the match-day 23 for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua this week posed the toughest challenge yet for him and his coaching staff. As the head coach prepared to face Moana Pasifika in their opening match of the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition this Saturday, he acknowledged that while it was a positive sign to have all players eager to participate, it made the task of informing those who would not be selected even more difficult.

During a press conference in Nadi, Jackson shared, “This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. It’s obvious everyone’s put their hand up to play, which is a really good problem to have, but it’s not easy telling some players that they won’t be wearing the jersey for the first time.” He emphasized that the decisions not only pressure those chosen to perform but also create high expectations throughout the team.

Among those making their debuts on Saturday are new signings Issak Fines-Leleiwasa, Virimi Vakatawa, Manasa Mataele, and co-captain Temo Mayanavanua. Jackson reassured all players that the structure of the season allows for opportunities to showcase their skills throughout the 18-game stretch. “We’ve talked to all the players about their understanding of how this is an 18-game season; opportunities will come for everyone,” he noted.

This announcement comes after months of rigorous off-season training and two competitive pre-season trial matches held in New Zealand and Lautoka. With the team set to perform in front of what they refer to as “the world’s best fans,” Jackson looks forward to seeing how his players can shine on their home turf.

The Drua’s match against Moana Pasifika is scheduled for Churchill Park at 3:30 PM, promising an exciting start to the season. This year’s campaign is anticipated to be tougher and more exhilarating, with fans eager to witness the team’s developments from training to game time.
