Fiji's Women Artisans Shine at Central Division Expo!

Fiji’s Women Artisans Shine at Central Division Expo!

Handmade crafts, art, jewelry, and clothing created by skilled women from across Fiji are being showcased at the Central Division Women’s Expo in Suva, taking place on June 12 and 13. This two-day event celebrates the creativity, expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit of women from all provinces in the Central Division.

According to event organizers, the expo provides a valuable platform for local women artisans to present their work, share their stories, and sell directly to customers. Many attendees arrived early on the first day to acquire unique, one-of-a-kind items.

The Suva City Council has expressed its support for this initiative as part of a broader effort to boost local talent and enhance civic pride. Visitors can expect vibrant displays of various products, including mats, masi, handmade jewelry, and natural skincare items, alongside engaging tie-dye fabrics.

This expo also aligns with the Destination Suva campaign, which aims to enhance tourism while promoting the city as a cultural hub. Organizers are encouraging the public to attend, meet the artisans, and support local businesses; entry to the expo is free.

Reflecting on previous similar events, such as the National Women’s Expo, which celebrated the resilience and creativity of female artisans, this latest event highlights the ongoing commitment to empowering women in Fiji. Last year’s National Expo brought together thousands of women who showcased their craftsmanship and were pivotal in connecting them to sustainable economic opportunities.

Overall, the Central Division Women’s Expo aims to foster a supportive environment where women can thrive economically and socially, ultimately benefiting their families and communities. Events like these serve not only to honor women’s contributions but to create a positive trajectory for future generations, reinforcing the idea that empowering women leads to community prosperity.
