A slow-moving trough to the west of Fiji, combined with a moist easterly wind flow, is bringing increased cloud, frequent showers and pockets of heavy rain across parts of the group. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi issued this update at 10:45am on Saturday 25 April 2026. Showers are gradually spreading southeast onto the southwestern islands and will affect other areas at times through to midnight tomorrow.
The heaviest and most persistent rain, with a few thunderstorms, is expected over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri, Ra‑Rakiraki, southern parts of Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy falls. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents in susceptible locations should remain alert to rapidly rising water.
Winds will be moderate from the east, fresh at times, and are forecast to become predominantly northeasterly tomorrow. Expect moderate to rough seas across the coastal waters, with conditions likely unsuitable for small craft during the rougher spells. Mariners and those with coastal plans should take the sea state into account when making arrangements.
Urban and island centre notes: Navua/Suva/Nausori will see occasional showers, heavy at times, with a temperature range around 23–31°C. Nadi/Lautoka/Ba are likely to have cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms (23–32°C). Labasa and parts of the northern islands will experience cloudy periods with some showers and the chance of thunderstorms and heavy falls, with daytime highs near 32°C. Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu are also expected to have occasional heavy showers and a few thunderstorms with lows near 23°C and highs around 30–31°C.
Looking ahead to Monday, some showers are expected to linger over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri, Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, while most other areas should be fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate east to northeast and seas moderate. Rotuma remains under a moist easterly flow with a trough in the vicinity; expect cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms, and seas remaining moderate.
