Vodafone Fiji’s chief executive officer, Elenoa Biukoto, recently addressed customer concerns regarding the e-Ticketing card upgrade process. She clarified that customers will incur a $3 fee only if they decide to upgrade their e-Ticketing card more than three times, easing worries expressed during a talkback show on Fijivillage.
Amid persistent complaints from over 200,000 registered users about the new e-Transport card’s fees and functionalities, Biukoto explained that users with the original and first replacement cards will not have any charges. She noted that approximately 350,000 to 400,000 commuters in Fiji are affected, and the rollout of over 2.4 million cards has led to some misuse and loss, prompting the need for users to be accountable for their cards.
Biukoto mentioned that the newest cards, equipped with advanced technology, cost $4.20 each upon arrival in Fiji, with the company incurring additional expenses related to this upgrade. Although she acknowledged the deadline for card upgrades is approaching, she encouraged users to remain patient, stressing the potential long-term benefits of the new system for both individuals and the broader community.
In connection to concerns raised by the public, similar articles highlighted Vodafone’s commitment to improving the card registration and upgrade process. Reports indicate that the company is working to streamline services and address the long lines at customer service outlets. Additionally, initiatives have been introduced for priority lines catering to the elderly and individuals with disabilities to ensure better accessibility.
As the government collaborates with Vodafone to enhance the e-Transport system, there is optimism that these improvements will lead to a more efficient and user-friendly public transportation framework in Fiji—a move that could ultimately enhance the commuting experience for all Fijians.
