Swire Shipping Fijian Drua co-captain Frank Lomani expressed optimism following his team’s performance against the Waratahs in their Shop N Save Super Rugby clash on Friday, despite the loss. He noted significant improvements in his side’s play, particularly when comparing it to their previous match, although they struggled to maintain that momentum towards the end.

Lomani remarked that the Drua started strong, especially in the first 50 minutes. However, they faltered in the final stages of the game. “We spoke about starting well. We obviously did that in the first 50 minutes. The boys just couldn’t hold on in the last 20. We’re a really good team, but we can’t afford to make mistakes. They’re going to count us; we’re just playing in their hands,” he stated.

Emphasizing the team’s ongoing development, Lomani pointed out the importance of adapting to various tactical challenges, including kicking strategies and set-piece execution. He believes that with these adjustments, the Drua will continue to grow stronger throughout the season.

Lomani also highlighted the positive impact of younger players stepping up during such competitive matches, indicating a promising future for the team. “One positive about us is that we have a lot of young boys coming up. It’s good to see them putting their hands up during these kinds of matchups,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Drua are now focused on their next challenge against the Hurricanes in Lautoka, where they aim to capitalize on their recent improvements and build on their squad’s potential.
