The Fiji Meteorological Service has lifted its heavy rain and flash flood alerts for the Northern Division, Yasawa, Northern Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. This decision comes as a sign of some improvement in weather conditions across the region. However, a trough of low pressure remains stagnant just north of Fiji, resulting in unsettled weather patterns continuing over certain areas.
While alerts have been canceled, forecasts predict a mix of weather, including occasional showers, isolated heavy falls, and thunderstorms particularly over the eastern and interior sections of Vanua Levu. This includes areas such as Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni, and surrounding smaller islands, as well as the Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups.
In Viti Levu, regions from Serua-Namosi through Navua, Suva, and Nausori to Tailevu-Ra are also advised to prepare for showers and thunderstorms in the coming hours. Meanwhile, other locations in the area can anticipate partly cloudy skies, with the likelihood of afternoon or evening showers, some of which may lead to heavy rainfall.
The Fiji Meteorological Service has cautioned that intense downpours from thunderstorms could still pose a threat of flash flooding in low-lying regions. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and to monitor local weather updates for changing conditions. This updated information reflects a careful balancing act of hope for improving weather while maintaining awareness of potential challenges in the days ahead.
