The Fiji 2025 STEPS Survey has unveiled a comprehensive five-year national strategy aimed at mitigating non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors and preventing premature fatalities among its citizens. The outlined plan emphasizes a holistic approach that targets the fundamental causes of these health issues through innovative food policies, stringent tobacco control measures, and initiatives that promote physical activity throughout all stages of life.

In addition to these proactive measures, efforts are being made to enhance primary healthcare services. This will involve better integration of NCD screening, treatment, and long-term management, particularly within community settings where access to healthcare can be limited.

The Ministry of Health is also prioritizing the advancement of multi-sectoral actions, which include wellness programs tailored for schools, workplaces, and communities. By fostering collaboration across different sectors, the initiative aims to create environments conducive to healthier lifestyles.

Furthermore, the government is looking to implement and strengthen fiscal and regulatory actions, including health taxes on unhealthy products, as part of a broader strategy to improve public health outcomes.

This ambitious plan is a hopeful step towards reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases in Fiji, ultimately leading to a healthier population and enhanced quality of life for all citizens.
