The Fiji Football Association is set to hold its inaugural men’s national under-19 trials this afternoon in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Oceania Football Confederation Qualifiers. Head coach Dhirend Chand announced that the trials will take place over the next three days at the Fiji Football headquarters in Suva.
Chand emphasized that the selection process will involve more than just assessing raw talent. He stated that he will be evaluating players based on their understanding of the game, physical attributes, and their ability to think critically and adapt to various positions quickly. “At the moment the competition is at a very high level. We will be looking for players who can think and quickly move into positions, with a variety of knowledge in their own positions,” he explained.
In addition to these trials, Chand mentioned that more sessions will be organized across the country to ensure a comprehensive talent assessment before the final squad is announced next month. A total of 30 players from both Viti Levu and Vanua Levu have been identified to participate, chosen through talent identification programs that have been conducted nationwide since last year.
The upcoming 2026 OFC Qualifiers, which aim to enhance football development in the region, are scheduled to commence in June, creating excitement and opportunity for young players in Fiji.
