The Fijian government is actively seeking to enhance international higher education opportunities for its students, according to Education Minister Aseri Radrodro. During a recent visit to Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) in California, Radrodro, alongside Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi, led a delegation aiming to broaden access to post-secondary education for Fijian youth.

The visit was instrumental in supporting the Ministry of Education’s objectives to develop employable skills and prepare students for global career prospects. Meetings with SRJC leaders focused on the establishment of programs and support services tailored for international students, particularly pathways that facilitate transfers from community colleges to four-year universities.

Radrodro emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that Fijian youth are provided with international educational opportunities, technical skills, and exposure to global environments. SRJC, which offers a variety of associate degrees and certificate programs in fields such as Health Sciences, Business, and Computer Studies, currently hosts students from more than 30 countries, highlighting its diverse and supportive learning atmosphere.

The delegation also toured SRJC’s campus and engaged with current international student mentors, gaining insights into the college’s inclusive educational environment and robust support system. Ratu Ilisoni remarked on the importance of such collaborations in reinforcing relationships with international institutions and creating pathways for Fijian students abroad.

Additionally, the visit included discussions on strategies to support Fijian students studying internationally, ensuring they receive necessary guidance, mentorship, and academic resources for successful outcomes. This initiative reflects a promising step towards equipping Fijian students with the skills and experiences essential for thriving in today’s global workforce.
