Fiji international Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu is making a significant impact with Tahiti United in the OFC Pro League, showcasing his impressive skills and experience on the field. Last weekend, Waranaivalu played a pivotal role in the team’s 2-2 draw against Vanuatu United FC in Papua New Guinea. Although he did not score, his contributions in midfield were essential in earning his team its second point of the season.

The 30-year-old, who operates as an attacking midfielder, was instrumental in establishing Tahiti’s early dominance. His efforts helped set up Germain Haewegene for the opening goal in the 27th minute. Despite the challenges faced during a chaotic first half, Waranaivalu’s calm demeanor enabled Tahiti United to maintain their lead twice, although they were ultimately equalized by Vanuatu.

Upon arriving in Papua New Guinea, Waranaivalu expressed his excitement about returning to a place he considers a “home away from home.” He has visited the region numerous times, and it brings him joy to be back.

Waranaivalu also reflected on the need for improvement in the team’s finishing, acknowledging it as an area of concern. “Our finishing, we’ve been playing but finishing is still an area of concern, but we’ll leave that to the coaching staff,” he stated. As the team competes away from home, he called on Tahitian supporters in PNG to rally behind them.

As the only Fijian professional playing for a foreign-based club in this league, Waranaivalu’s consistent participation is a testament to his talent and determination. His performance not only enhances his career but also contributes positively to the development of Fijian football on the international stage.
