Fiji Boxing Set to Shine on International Stage with Tri-Nations Showdown!

Fiji Amateur Boxing is set to showcase its talent as they prepare to host the highly anticipated Tri-Nations International event at the FMF Gymnasium on June 27-28. The competition will feature 30 boxers from Australia and a team of 13 from Samoa, creating an exciting platform for international competition.

Cam Todd, head coach of Fiji Amateur Boxing, has highlighted the significance of this event for young boxers, emphasizing that it offers them a unique opportunity to gain experience and exposure at an international level. “It should be a very good event for our junior and youth boxers of all different levels, to give them an opportunity to have something international in boxing,” said Todd.

The event not only supports local development but aims to nurture future boxing stars who may compete in larger arenas such as the Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games, and the Olympics. Todd is focused on establishing a robust amateur pathway, ensuring that young athletes are well-prepared for these significant international competitions.

As preparations continue, Todd notes that many of the participating boxers will also be training for the upcoming Golden Gloves tournament in Australia next month. He strongly encourages the community to support these budding athletes by attending the matches, as their presence could greatly boost morale and the sport’s popularity within Fiji.

The upcoming Tri-Nations event symbolizes a turning point for Fiji’s amateur boxing scene, marking it as one of the largest international competitions hosted in the nation. Historically, Fijian boxers have had to travel abroad for such opportunities, making this event an essential milestone for promoting local talent.

The increased involvement in international competitions reflects not only the ambition to excel in boxing but also the growing interest and support for the sport within Fiji, suggesting a bright future for its amateur boxing community.
