In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, a significant initiative will see 170 indigenous trees planted to honor this milestone event. Marist Rugby Club president, Lawrence Tikaram, expressed gratitude towards the founding leaders whose efforts were instrumental in launching the tournament, especially highlighting Pio Bosco Tikoisuva, who was pivotal in bringing the idea to life in the late 1970s.

As part of the anniversary festivities, team captains from each participating squad will plant one tree, representing their commitment to the occasion, while an additional 50 trees will be planted by sponsors and event directors to symbolize the half-century legacy of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s. Tikaram reflected on the journey of the tournament, stating, “It was just a dream back then, but it became alive.”

This tree-planting initiative not only commemorates the event but also emphasizes a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The Marist Rugby Club has previously been involved in similar community efforts, such as planting 1,000 fruit trees in Naivucini, Naitasiri, and participating in clean-up activities along the Suva foreshore, showcasing their ongoing dedication to fostering a greener future.

The Marist 7s tournament is scheduled to take place from March 26-28, demonstrating a vibrant blend of sportsmanship and community engagement, thereby inspiring future generations to honor both athletic achievement and environmental stewardship.
