The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has disclosed its sexual offences statistics for February 2026, highlighting a disturbing increase in violent crimes occurring within family units. These figures illustrate a troubling pattern of abuse that underscores the urgent need for preventative measures and support systems for victims.

Among the reported cases, a 64-year-old man faces charges for the rape of his 5-year-old granddaughter, a crime that shocks the community. Similarly, another case involves a 29-year-old man charged with raping his 4-year-old stepson, reflecting a grave violation of trust within familial relationships.

The statistics also include alarming instances of older male relatives committing sexual offences against teenage girls. A 47-year-old man has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against his 15-year-old stepdaughter. Additionally, a 36-year-old man is accused of raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter twice. These incidents raise significant concerns about the safety and wellbeing of children in domestic environments.

The report also details cases involving other relatives, such as a 55-year-old male charged with raping his 63-year-old former partner, and several younger men accused of rape and sexual assault against cousins. A 23-year-old man has been charged with raping his 17-year-old cousin, while a 30-year-old man faces charges for one count of rape and one count of sexual assault against his 19-year-old cousin.

While these statistics are disturbing, they also highlight the critical need for community awareness and intervention strategies to protect vulnerable individuals from domestic violence and sexual abuse. Increased reporting and legal accountability are essential steps toward fostering safer family environments. It is crucial for society to unite in raising awareness and advocating for the protection of all individuals, particularly children, who are often the most vulnerable in such heinous situations.
