An easterly wind flow prevails over Fiji with a weak trough of low pressure expected to affect the eastern parts of the country from later today, bringing increased cloud and showers. Many eastern and island areas can expect cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls tonight and into Wednesday, while Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are likely to see afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the east and seas moderate to rough through the period.
Cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls are forecast for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will generally be fine but with the chance of afternoon or evening showers. The outlook for Wednesday remains much the same, with persistent shower activity in the east and shower or thunderstorm risk across parts of the main islands.
Across urban centres, Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls, with temperatures around 23 to 31°C and a similar pattern continuing into Wednesday. The interior and eastern plains at Natadradave and Korovou have comparable conditions and temperatures. The western corridor including Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, as well as Tavua, Rakiraki and Labasa, will be mostly fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, with daytime highs up to about 33°C. The Sigatoka and Coral Coast area is expected to be fine but not immune to late‑day showers and thunderstorms, with highs near 32°C. The Yasawa and Mamanuca groups should remain mainly fine today.
Northern and outer islands — Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu — can expect cloudy periods with showers and the potential for isolated heavy falls and evening thunderstorms, with lows near 23°C and daytime temperatures around 30–31°C. Rotuma continues to be influenced by the trough, with cloudy periods, showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas; temperatures there are around 23–32°C and a similar pattern is expected on Wednesday.
Moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas are expected across the group, so small craft operators and those planning to be at sea should take care. The possibility of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms in affected areas means sudden downpours and gusty winds are possible this evening and into Wednesday; keep an eye on local updates if you are in the eastern provinces and outlying island groups.
