Women in Finance: Lorraine Seeto Joins SPX Board as Independent Director

Lorraine Seeto, a business executive with a notable background in finance, has been appointed as an Independent Director of the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) Board. Seeto is celebrated for her significant contributions to the financial sector, being the first woman to occupy a senior executive position at the Reserve Bank of Fiji, where she also served as an advisor to the Governors.

SPX highlighted Seeto’s extensive experience, which includes collaborations with both regional and international financial institutions and involvement in major initiatives in the financial sector. Her recognition in the field includes several accolades, notably the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fiji Institute of Bankers and the Women in Business Excellence and Commitment Award.

Nitin Gandhi, the Chairperson of SPX, expressed enthusiasm about Seeto’s appointment, noting that her wealth of experience in central banking and financial regulation would provide valuable insights into the strategic direction of the board. Gandhi reaffirmed that her addition strengthens the Board’s commitment to governance and the ongoing development of capital markets in Fiji.

Seeto’s expertise is expected to enhance the SPX as it works to align itself with global best practices in market operations. This appointment comes at a time when the SPX is actively engaging in international events, such as its recent participation in the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) Annual Meeting, which emphasized the importance of global collaboration in enhancing capital market dynamics.

This proactive approach and Seeto’s addition to the board signal a hopeful future for SPX as it aims to foster growth and modernization in Fiji’s financial landscape. Her insights will be pivotal as SPX works to strengthen its governance frameworks and expand its footprint in the capital markets.
