Women are making significant strides in the workforce as 48 female graduates from Pacific Polytech’s Tavua campus entered fields traditionally dominated by men. During a ceremony at the Gold Town Event Centre in Tavua, a total of 151 graduates received National Certificate Level 3 credentials in various technical areas, including Automotive Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical Fitter Mechanic, and Information Technology.
Minister for Fisheries and Forestry Alitia Bainivalu emphasized the importance of these accomplishments, asserting that skill knows no gender. She noted that these graduates are playing a vital role in shaping the future of both the economy and the digital sector.
“You are the trailblazers. Skill knows no gender,” Bainivalu remarked, underscoring that women in fields such as Automotive Electrical and Electronics, Carpentry, and Plumbing have shattered glass ceilings, demonstrating that competence is not limited by gender.
Encouraging the new graduates, Bainivalu urged them to pursue excellence with integrity and character while maintaining a balance between work and family life. She reminded them of the importance of preserving Fijian culture and making positive contributions to their nation.
This momentous occasion not only highlights the progress women are making in various trades but also sets a hopeful tone for the future of gender equality in the workforce. With continued support and encouragement, the path for women in technical fields looks promising, paving the way for further advancements and achievements.
