Weather Alert!
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Buckle up, folks! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is doing the cha-cha across the Fiji Group, so grab your umbrellas!
Oh, and don’t forget—a FLASH FLOOD WARNING is in place for Viti Levu, while Vanua Levu gets a FLASH FLOOD ALERT. If you’re planning on a hike, it might be best to bring a snorkel.
Now, let’s talk about the wind. A STRONG WIND WARNING is swirling around the western division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu and its mini-mates, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Macuata, Bua, Taveuni, and other smaller islands. In other words, if you’ve got a hat, you might want to leave it at home—unless you enjoy playing “chase the hat”!
We’ve got Tropical Cyclone URMIL (sounds like a villain from an old movie, doesn’t it?) hanging out 670 km south of Nadi. It’s expected to fade from our radar by 6 PM this evening, but until then, expect some wild rainy weather and winds that could make a kite jealous.
Forecast for the next day or so for the Fiji group:
**Western Division** (including Yasawa and Mamanuca groups), Kadavu, and nearby islands: Prepare for some strong northwesterly winds zipping through at 45 km/hr, with gusts zooming up to 75 km/hr—rotor blades be warned! Winds will chill out a bit tomorrow.
**Macuata and Bua:** Moderate winds will soon join the party, flirting with speeds of 40 km/hr and gusts reaching 60 km/hr. Hold onto your hats! Meanwhile, the seas are feeling frisky, so expect rough waters.
**Rest of Fiji:** Casual winds blowing, but don’t get cozy—there’s rain on the agenda, and thunderstorms might join the picnic. Humidity might just set a world record too.
**For Tuesday:** More rain with the occasional heavy downpour (perfect for those who enjoy an outdoor shower experience) and maybe a thunderstorm to spice things up. Winds will remain moderate, and seas will ride the moderate to rough rollercoaster.
**Spotlight Forecasts:**
– For Suva/Navua/Nausori: Rainy vibes with chances of thunder tomorrow, Min: 25, Max: 30.
– For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Bring your rain gear, but you might also want that sunscreen. Min: 25, Max: 30.
– For Yasawa/Mamanuca Group: The wind is really trying to impress, and rain is the icing on the cake. Min: 25, Max: 30.
**Over in Rotuma:** Things are looking decidedly damp with a Heavy Rain Alert that just won’t quit. Expect some shower fun, gusty winds, and seas that could use a chill pill.
Hold tight, stay safe, and keep your sense of humor handy—that weather can be as unpredictable as your best friend’s choice of pizza toppings!
