Significant rainfall has impacted various regions across the country over the last 24 hours, causing river levels to rise and heightening the risk of flooding in susceptible areas. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported alarming rainfall totals for the period from 4 PM yesterday to 4 PM today, with specific measurements including 235.0mm in Rarawai, 197.5mm in Nadarivatu, 192.5mm in Navala, 159.5mm in Nanoko, 132.5mm in Waikubukubu, 117.5mm in Monasavu, and 104.5mm in Lautoka.

A flood warning remains active for all low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, as well as Naseyani along the Yaqara River, the Tavua River, and the flood plains of the Ba River. Furthermore, a flood alert has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas near the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva Rivers in Nadroga.

Authorities are strongly advising residents in affected areas and downstream communities to stay vigilant, steer clear of flooded roads and river crossings, and adhere to all official weather warnings and advisories amid ongoing unsettled weather conditions.

This recent bout of rain highlights the need for communities to prepare for extreme weather events and emphasizes the importance of heeding meteorological updates to ensure safety. With continued vigilance and adherence to safety measures, residents can navigate these challenges while awaiting improved weather conditions.
