Suva City Council is joining forces with the Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) to enhance waste management efforts in the region, coinciding with the upcoming 2026 Global Recycling Day. This collaboration, aimed at improving recycling practices, is set to foster community recycling initiatives and raise awareness about waste management.

PRF Founder Amitesh Deo emphasized that partnerships between governmental entities and grassroots organizations can face challenges. However, he praised the Suva City Council for its willingness to collaborate with community recyclers. This partnership exemplifies how diverse groups can unite to tackle waste management effectively, promoting sustainable practices in the community.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, CEO of Suva City Council, reiterated the importance of strong collaborations in addressing the escalating issues within the waste sector. He believes that these partnerships are crucial for overcoming the challenges posed by waste disposal and management.

The celebration of the 2026 Global Recycling Day is scheduled for March 18 at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva, marking an opportunity for residents to engage with and support local recycling efforts. The formal agreement signed by Boseiwaqa and Deo represents a significant commitment to strengthening cooperation between the council and local recyclers.
