South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Fiji has celebrated a significant milestone in its 15-year mission to empower women entrepreneurs with the official relocation of its Nausori branch. The new office, blessed and inaugurated by Reverend Savenaca Nakeke, Divisional Superintendent of the Nausori Methodist Division, has been described as “a lighthouse that people can run to for help.”
During the ceremony, Reverend Nakeke drew a parallel to the Biblical story of the Talents, emphasizing that the resources allocated to individuals are meant to flourish rather than be hoarded. He urged the staff and the community to utilize their opportunities to grow and make a positive impact: “God is not looking for us to simply preserve our lives or our faith in a bubble. He expects us to grow, multiply, and influence the world around us.”
SPBD Fiji’s Managing Director Lorraine Seeto warmly welcomed community members to the new facilities, which are conveniently located just a short distance from the former office. She stated, “This move is more than just a change of address. It represents growth, progress, and our unwavering commitment to serving our members better.”
The relocation places SPBD at the heart of Nausori’s commercial activities, strategically situated near the market and bus stand to ensure better accessibility for its 89 member centres, supported by a dedicated team of five staff members. Seeto also expressed gratitude to the organization’s partners, who generously donated an urn, fridge, and sandwich maker to enhance the new office space.
Since beginning operations in Suva in December 2010, SPBD has expanded its presence to ten branches, reaching various locations throughout Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, and the surrounding maritime islands. Established in 2024, the Nausori branch has already experienced significant demand for microfinance services from women entrepreneurs, which prompted the need for relocation.
Looking to the future, Seeto announced plans for SPBD Fiji to open its 11th branch in Korovou by mid-2026, with staff currently undergoing training for this exciting expansion. This ceremony not only underscored the progress of SPBD but also highlighted its foundational mission, initiated by founder Gregory Casagrande in 2000: to transform potential into prosperity for Pacific women.
