Solomon Kings secured their third victory in four matches with a commanding performance against Bula FC in Melbourne. Coming off a disappointing defeat to Vanuatu United, the team was eager to make a statement and began the match with an assertive approach, dominating the early stages.
Notable players Sota Higashide, Jez Lofthouse, and Junior David were instrumental in the Kings’ attacking play, putting pressure on Bula FC, who struggled to find their rhythm. The breakthrough came just under twenty minutes into the match when Fordney Junior set up Lofthouse, who then assisted Junior David. David played Lofthouse through on goal, allowing the Australian to find the back of the net from a tight angle, giving Solomon Kings a deserved lead.
The Kings continued to threaten, with Higashide coming close to doubling the advantage shortly after but missing the target. A missed opportunity for Bula FC came just before half-time when David Supa misjudged a header back to goalkeeper Phillip Mango, who saved the day with a quick reaction.
In the second half, Bula FC attempted to elevate their performance but still struggled to generate substantial scoring opportunities. Their coach, Stephane Auvray, made several substitutions, including the introduction of Roy Krishna and Fergus Gillion, hoping to turn the tide.
Maikah Dau had a chance to level the score but squandered the opportunity, missing the target after a promising run. Meanwhile, Solomon Kings remained a constant threat and extended their lead with fifteen minutes left. Fordney Junior was fouled in the box while shooting, prompting referee Mederic Lacour to award a penalty, which was confirmed after a VAR check.
Sota Higashide stepped up to take the penalty, confidently scoring in the top corner and leaving Didier Desprez with no chance. Bula FC continued to push for a goal, with Yuta Konagaya forcing a fantastic reflex save from Mango, and Auvray firing over from a challenging angle.
Although fifteen minutes of additional time were added, Bula FC could not find a way back into the match. Solomon Kings successfully maintained their lead, solidifying their position in third place in the league standings. With the team finding their form, the future looks promising as they aim to continue their upward trajectory in the competition.
