Saraswati College in Nausori is set to make a strong showing at the upcoming Triple N zone athletics competition, driven by their desire to secure medals. In preparation for this significant event, the college organized an inter-house competition in collaboration with Muaniweni College at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Principal Pranesh Kumar expressed his appreciation for the partnership with Muaniweni College, noting that around 300 students participated in the inter-house competition. Emphasizing the importance of personal achievements, Kumar stated, “The focus was on achieving personal bests as the students gear up for the Triple N zone and Coca Cola games.” The preparation includes both track and field events, aimed at identifying and honing potential athletes who will compete at these prestigious meets.
The objective for Saraswati College is clear: to select 60 athletes for the Triple N zone and to send their best competitors to the Coca Cola games. Last year, the college was represented by 14 athletes at the Coca Cola games, and this year they aspire to increase that number with the goal of winning their first gold medal.
Despite the challenges posed by larger competing schools, Saraswati College remains confident in the talent and determination of their athletes. The ongoing commitment to athletic development fosters not only a competitive spirit but also a sense of community among students.
Similar trends are evident across other schools, where significant preparations for the Triple N zone competition are underway. For example, Lelean Memorial School is assembling 180 athletes to represent them after their own successful inter-house competition, while Adi Cakobau School is focusing on younger talent as they prepare to defend their title.
These efforts highlight a broader movement in Fiji’s educational sports landscape, emphasizing the growth of competitive athletics among students. Schools are increasingly recognizing the importance of sports in fostering personal growth, teamwork, and perseverance. The thriving enthusiasm surrounding these events paints a hopeful picture for the future of athletics in the region, encouraging young athletes to chase their dreams and contribute to a vibrant sports culture.
