Drua Women Set to Soar Against Queensland Reds in Thrilling Clash

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s rugby team is set for an important Round 2 matchup against the Queensland Reds this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Head Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has opted to maintain an unchanged starting lineup following their impressive victory over the defending champions, the Waratahs Women, in the previous round. This victory also led to five Drua players being named in the Super W Team of the Week, showcasing the squad’s strong performance so far this season.

The starting XV features key players such as prop Salanieta Nabuli at loosehead, captain Vika Matarugu in the tighthead position, and Keleni Marawa at hooker. The middle row consists of Mereoni Nakesa and Asinate Serevi, while rookie flankers Alfreda Fisher and Salaseini Railumu aim to build on their successful debuts last week, with Karalaini Naisewa rounding out the back row at number 8. The backline includes Kolora Lomani at halfback and Salanieta Kinita at flyhalf, with Alowesi Nakoci and Repeka Tove on the wings. The center positions are held by Josivini Naihamu and vice-captain Vitalina Naikore, while Luisa Tisolo completes the starting lineup at fullback.

Rawaqa has made four changes to the bench, adding fresh energy with Loraini Senivutu as backup hooker, Ana Korovata supporting the loosehead prop role, and Tiana Robanakadavu providing tighthead cover. Merevesi Ofakimalino makes a welcome return to Super Rugby W after a two-year absence, while Nunia Daunimoala returns from injury to bolster the loose forward options. Setaita Railumu will cover halfback, and Litiana Vueti takes on flyhalf duties, with Merewairita Neivosa completing the bench as backline cover.

Kickoff for this eagerly awaited match is scheduled for 1:05 PM, and fans are excited to see the Drua women’s team in action as they strive to build on their success and enhance the visibility of women’s rugby in the region. The inclusion of sister pairings in the lineup, with Karalaini Naisewa and Keleni Marawa alongside Salaseini and Setaita Railumu, further exemplifies the team’s spirit and unity.

This game not only presents a competitive challenge but also an opportunity for community engagement and the promotion of women’s sports. The growing support for women’s rugby in the Pacific region reflects a hopeful future, inspiring young athletes to pursue their dreams in sports.
