Athletics Fiji’s head coach, Albert Miller, has expressed his admiration for the performances showcased at the Suva Zone Two Athletics competitions held at the HFC Bank Stadium. With the Pacific Mini Games approaching in just a few months, Miller and his team are closely observing several promising athletes competing in this event.

Miller noted the impressive showings from smaller schools like Jai Narayan College, Nabua Secondary, and Nuku Secondary School, who have proven to be formidable competitors against larger institutions. “We’ve been keeping an eye on a few athletes here at the zone and we are impressed with what we’ve seen. We’re also happy to see smaller schools come out very strongly for the zone,” stated Miller.

The highlight of the event includes the 800-meter finals for both boys and girls across various grades, culminating with the senior boys’ 4×400 relay, scheduled to kick off at 3:20 PM. This competitive spirit among athletes, particularly from smaller schools, indicates a strengthening of athletics in Fiji.

This dovetails with Miller’s ongoing efforts to foster greater participation and development in athletics, echoing themes from previous discussions that highlight the importance of long-term training programs. He previously called on coaches to maintain momentum after significant events like the Coca-Cola Games, emphasizing the necessity for pathways that continue athlete engagement throughout the year.

The proactive approach under Miller’s direction represents an encouraging outlook for Fiji’s athletics, suggesting that with more structured support and continued interest, both emerging and established athletes could excel in future competitions. The developments seen during the Suva Zone Two competitions align well with these broader goals for athletic growth within the region.
