Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) is actively engaging the public regarding its proposed electricity tariff adjustment, with Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson stressing the importance of an open, inclusive, and accessible consultation process for communities across the nation.

According to Gibson, EFL has conducted public engagement sessions in 17 locations, ensuring the approach resonates with Fiji’s diverse geographic and social landscape. These sessions included clear written communications outlining the tariff proposal and its implications for consumers, as well as personal discussions with households and businesses. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and express their viewpoints, fostering genuine two-way dialogue.

“This approach enabled genuine two-way engagement and reflects internationally accepted principles of inclusiveness, transparency, and good-faith consultation,” Gibson stated. He emphasized EFL’s commitment to align with the Government’s National Energy Policy, which aims to transition the energy sector towards 100 percent renewable sources.

Additionally, EFL is dedicated to maintaining transparency and accountability, protecting vulnerable customers, ensuring a reliable electricity supply, and enhancing Fiji’s overall energy security and developmental goals. Gibson urged stakeholders to review the publicly available tariff proposal documents and engage constructively in the consultation process.

“Accessible, sustainable electricity for Fiji requires decisions grounded in evidence, fairness, and the broader national interest,” he affirmed, echoing a hopeful and solutions-oriented mindset for the future of the nation’s energy sector.
