The Republic of the Philippines has officially marked a significant milestone in its diplomatic relations with Fiji as Noel M. Novicio became the nation’s first Resident Ambassador to the island nation. In a ceremony held at State House, Ambassador Novicio presented his Letters of Credence to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. He was joined by his spouse, Dorothy Delgado Novicio, and Second Secretary Emmylou Banez Felima.

During the ceremony, President Lalabalavu congratulated Ambassador Novicio on his new role, extending heartfelt wishes for a fruitful tenure on behalf of Fiji’s government and its citizens. The President emphasized that the establishment of a resident Philippine mission in Suva symbolizes the Philippines’ commitment to fostering robust bilateral relations across various sectors.

Furthermore, President Lalabalavu acknowledged the significant contributions made by the Filipino diaspora to the Fijian economy, particularly through remittances. He expressed an interest in learning about the Philippines’ strategies for protecting the welfare of its citizens abroad and the benefits available to those who return home.

Ambassador Novicio reciprocated the sentiments, underscoring his dedication to enhancing the friendly ties between the two nations. He highlighted that the Philippines is currently chairing ASEAN for the year, under the theme “Navigating Our Future Together.” The Ambassador expressed hope for a high-level gathering between ASEAN and the Pacific Islands Forum at the ministerial level in the near future, aiming to address regional and international matters of mutual concern.

This new diplomatic chapter reflects a hopeful and proactive approach toward international cooperation, setting the stage for potential collaboration between the Philippines and Fiji.
