Penaia Cakobau, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua representative, is thoroughly enjoying his experience in the Drua jersey and is open to the possibility of a long-term commitment if the opportunity presents itself. Recently, Cakobau was part of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians squad that competed in the 2024 Pacific Nations Cup, and he subsequently joined the team on their end-of-year tour to Europe.

Currently on a short-term contract with the Drua, Cakobau is focused on proving his worth and earning a permanent position within the team. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Hopefully I get to stay, but I am just here to do my part for the team. Whatever the coaches need, whatever the players need, that is what I am here for. I am never going to say no. This is every boy’s dream in Fiji. It is a very important competition.”

For Cakobau, the opportunity to play for the Drua during their pre-season matches transcends a mere contract; it embodies a dream shared by many young Fijian athletes. The intensity of the competition has pushed him to enhance every aspect of his game, and he is eager to learn from his teammates who are helping elevate his performance.

Currently, Cakobau is engaged in the final week of pre-season training and will continue with the squad for the next few weeks until a decision is made about his future with the team. The Drua are slated to face Moana Pasifika this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka at 3:35 PM, which fans can watch live on FBC Sports. Cakobau’s journey reflects the aspirations and dedication of many young players in Fiji, promising exciting possibilities for his future in rugby.
