New Clinic Opens Doors to a Healthier Sigatoka Community

A new community medical clinic has officially opened in Sigatoka, aimed at providing residents with accessible healthcare and preventive services. The initiative was initiated by retired physician Dr. Salik Ram Govind and supported by the Govind Family Foundation in partnership with the Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji.

Dr. Govind expressed that this clinic is merely the beginning of a broader plan intended to enhance health outcomes in the region. He envisions the facility evolving into a specialized center that focuses on treating illnesses while also educating the community on healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent chronic diseases. “My vision is to make this area a healthy city,” he stated, indicating a commitment to enhancing health standards and access in Sigatoka.

The clinic has been established with over $150,000 worth of assets contributed by the Govind family and aims to promote community wellness while broadening access to crucial health services across the nation.

This opening mirrors prior efforts in the healthcare sector within Fiji, such as a recent clinic inaugurated in Olosara, also in Sigatoka, which provides free healthcare services. Both initiatives reflect a growing commitment to enhancing healthcare access, especially in underserved areas, and focus on prevention and education.

With these collaborative efforts, there is hopeful potential for improved health standards across Fiji, supporting a positive vision for both immediate and long-term community health. The engagement and feedback from local communities will be essential in adapting these services to meet evolving health needs, paving the way for a healthier future for all residents.
