Business operations in Nadi Town have returned to normal following two days of adverse weather conditions. Lawrence Kumar, president of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared insights on the impact of Tropical Cyclone Urmil, which prompted many local businesses to temporarily suspend operations for a day in line with advisories from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).

Kumar explained that the primary concern for businesses was the safety of employees and the public, as well as the security of the establishments themselves. The cyclone, while causing concern, did not make landfall in Nadi, which helped to mitigate potential severe damage. He noted that although there was significant rainfall and flooding in local streams and rivers, the Nadi River managed to remain within its banks, preventing what could have been catastrophic flooding for the community.

Post-cyclone assessments allowed many businesses to confidently reopen, with some having done so immediately after the weather improved, while others planned to resume operations the following day. Kumar emphasized that these businesses are exercising caution, remaining vigilant about the weather given ongoing heavy rainfall.

Overall, the resilience of the Nadi community is evident, as businesses adapt and continue to serve the public despite challenging conditions. The community’s ability to navigate through the storm’s aftermath underscores a hopeful narrative of recovery and perseverance.
