Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has urged the community to work together with law enforcement agencies following the release of a viral video depicting a tense arrest in Nadi. The incident occurred when two officers on their regular patrol approached two men who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. One of the men managed to escape, while the other, who was allegedly found in possession of several sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, refused to comply with police instructions, leading to a confrontation that was recorded on camera.

Commissioner Tudravu acknowledged that the footage illustrates the difficulties faced by officers when individuals resist arrest. He stressed that while police are trained to employ reasonable force during such situations, there are instances where quick action is necessary to control potentially volatile encounters. The Commissioner warned that any officer who abuses their authority would be held accountable under the law.

Additionally, he called on the public to engage cooperatively with police in order to prevent situations from escalating, emphasizing that such cooperation is vital for the safety of everyone involved. By fostering a constructive relationship between law enforcement and the community, both parties can work together to maintain peace and security. This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities faced by officers in the line of duty and the importance of public support in ensuring effective policing.
