Police are currently working to identify a man whose lifeless body was discovered floating in the Narewa River in Nadi on Friday afternoon. The authorities have stated that the body will undergo a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.

According to Orisi Dawai, the headman of Narewa Village, the body was spotted by a group of children who had intended to take a swim. “They had just reached the river when they saw the body floating downstream,” Mr. Dawai shared, emphasizing that the victim appeared to be an iTaukei man. He noted that it was difficult to identify the individual, as the body had been in the water for some time.

In addition to this tragic event, police reported another disturbing discovery in Lautoka—a newborn baby was found abandoned near Abaca by a 43-year-old man. The infant has since been taken to Lautoka Aspen Medical Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing in both cases as authorities seek answers regarding these unfortunate incidents. The community is understandably shaken by these events, highlighting the need for increased awareness and support for those in need.

In times like these, it is important for communities to come together and look out for one another, fostering a culture of care and vigilance.
