Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has executed a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday ahead of his meetings with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. In this reshuffle, Rainbo Paita, the Finschaffen MP, has been appointed as the new Mining Minister, while Finance Minister Miki Kaeok will additionally take on responsibilities for the Transport portfolio. Jimi MP Wake Goi is now designated as the Civil Aviation Minister.
During Marape’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso will serve as acting Prime Minister. In a recent statement, Marape hinted at his ongoing evaluation of the performance of ministers, indicating that further adjustments to the cabinet could take place in the future.
Marape’s trip to New Zealand aims to enhance bilateral relations, and he will be joined by Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko and International Trade Minister Richard Maru, who arrived in Auckland earlier.
